ATM machine bombed in Valenzuela City

Northern Police District (NPD) Director, C/Sup't Samuel Pagdilao, Jr. on Monday ruled out terror in the attack on three banks in the northern portion of Metro Manila even as he ordered an investigation of the series of explosions the latest was at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) booth of Union Bank, Valenzuela Branch located at McArthur Highway early Monday.
Based on an investigation conducted by the NPD's Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) the explosion that hit at about 5:10 a.m at the Union Bank ATM booth caused extensive damage to the bank especially at the glass window of the machine.
No one was hurt in the explosions, investigators said.
S/Sup't Rainier Idio, police chief, said prior to the explosions a still unidentified man was seen triying to break into the ATM booth of the bank. Moments later, the man allegedly boarded a motorcycle then sped away with another man.
This was the latest of the three series of explosions that rocked three banks in the CAMANAVA area since Saturday night when two suspected improvised explosive devices (IED) hurled by still unidentified groups hit two branches of the Allied Bank in Valenzuela City (Marulas Branch) and in Rizal Ave., Caloocan City (Monumento Branch) in a span of twenty minutes.
Valenzuela City police investigators said the explosions caused damages to the glass window of the Allied bank, and the explosion in the Monumento Branch damaged its ceilling and the window pane.
S/Sup't Jude W. Santos, Caloocan City Police said, however, no one was hurt in the said explosion at the time thrown during the heavy downpour and the guards were posted at the back of the bank.
Ruling out the incidents as terroristic activities, Pagdilao, in a press conference cautioned everyone as there is no cause for alarm.
"There is no terrorist attack yet in Metro Manila," Pagdilao said, even as he alerted the four chiefs of police in the CAMANAVA area following the spate of explosions.
"It is still premature to conclude the motive, there was no robbery motive," he added.
He said they just wanted to scare."Baka gusto lang nila manakot," the NPD chief said.
Earlier, Pagdilao said preliminary investigation and assessment conducted by the NPD's Explosive Ordnance Unit and the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) showed that an improvised explosive device (IED) known as pillbox as the one used due to the presence of black powder residue.
He, cannot, however determine whether the same group has something to do the series of incidents that rocked two government offices in Quezon city recently.
"At this time there is no factual basis to connect this two bombing incidents to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Agriculture (DAR)," Pagdilao said.
"Several angles are now being considered to look into to determine the motive of the suspects," Santos said.
