President Arroyo is expected to push for interfaith dialogue to end conflicts as well as promote the rights of migrant workers during the 15th summit of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) in Egypt.

The President left Manila Tuesday to join more than 100 leaders from all over the world in a gathering at Sharm El Sheikh, a seafront resort overlooking the Red Sea, on July 15 and 16.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the President was on a “special mission” to represent the Asian leaders in the NAM summit, held once in three years, aimed at strengthening regional and global cooperation on political, economic and social issues affecting developing countries.

Remonde said Egyptian President Muhamed Mubarak invited President Arroyo to be the spokesperson for the Asian leaders during her working visit to Cairo last May.

“I believe the invitation was extended not only because our President is presently the vice president for Asia, but more so because of her globally recognized commitment to the eradication of domestic and international terrorism, to the promotion of interfaith dialogue to achieve lasting peace, and to the advancement of peace and development to eliminate poverty,” Remonde said.

Remonde said the President would present anew these concerns to the NAM summit with the theme “International Solidarity for Peace and Development,” suiting the present conflicts in different corners of the world.
