Lakas-Kampi applies for accreditation
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) hears at 10 a.m. Thursday the petition of LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD to be accredited and registered as a National Political Party entitled to all the rights and privileges granted to a political party with countrywide constituencies.
LAKAS- KAMPI-CMD was born out of the merger or consolidation of Lakas ng Tao – National Union of Christian Democrats (Lakas-NUCD), United Christian Muslims Democrats (Lakas CMD) and the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (KAMPI) last May 28 at historic landmark Manila Hotel.
Commissioner Nicodemo T. Ferrer, chairman of the Comelec second division, and Commissioner Lucenito N. Tagle as member, will hear the petition filed by LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD Secretary General and Presidential Political Adviser Gabriel S. Claudio.
The new political party is headed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as national chairperson and former President Fidel V. Ramos as chairman emeritus. The president of the party is Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita while Speaker Prospero C. Nograles is the vice chairman.
In a 10-page petition, Claudio said the merger and consolidation of the two dominant majority parties formalizes the partnership of Lakas CMD and KAMPI into one party aligned with the current administration.
