Why Mosley is chasing Pacman

More than the promise of a fat paycheck, Shane Mosley is after legacy in his bold bid to lure Manny Pacquiao to a fight on Nov. 14.

Mosley told the Bulletin Sunday afternoon (late Sunday night in the US) that the reason he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice of bowing to Pacquiao's demand is for the legacy that awaits him in the event he beats the Filipino pound-for-pound king.

Not only is Mosley agreeable to making a drastic weight reduction program, the California puncher said he doesn't mind getting the smaller piece of the pie.

"I'll fight him at 140 lbs and I am willing to give him the lion's share," said Mosley from Los Angeles.

Even with victories over Oscar De La Hoya and a bevy of marquee names, the mythical title of pound-for-pound king has eluded Mosley through the years and the cat-quick banger believes a win over Pacquiao would finally make him happy.

Now that he has practically given up everything, Mosley doesn't see any reason why Pacquiao will not take up the challenge.

"If he doesn't fight me, I guess you could say he's afraid of me or his people are afraid of me," said Mosley, the reigning World Boxing Association welterweight king.

Pacquiao, however, is being drawn elsewhere.

Top Rank big boss Bob Arum wants Pacquiao to face another fair-haired boy in Miguel Cotto.

The problem is that Pacquiao wants Cotto to go down to 143 lbs and the Puerto Rican insist it should be at 145 lbs.
