Action star Robin Padilla will soon be taking a break from showbiz -- not to pursue a career in politics as many have speculated but to study Indian martial arts.

Robin did not specify which type of Indian martial art he plans to study, whether ghatka, thang-ta, or kabaddi.

A big supporter of martial arts, he once donated about 2.5 million pesos to the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines.

“Therapy ko yon (martial arts) kasi medyo may kalungkutan (ngayon). Mag-de-debut na kasi si Queenie at alam mo naman ang kasunod ng debut, ang pag-a-asawa,” he said in “Showbiz News Ngayon” recently.

Queenie Padilla is Robin’s eldest daughter with his wife Liezel Sicangco.

The actor said Queenie is not considering a debutante's party in a hotel. He said she plans to distribute food to the needy "either in Manila or Mindanao," instead.

“Bata pa lang yan, hindi na namin sinanay sa mga parties,” he revealed.

Robin squashed rumors that he is taking a break to run for public office.

“Wala akong magagawa pag ako [ay] naging pulitiko. Mas marami akong nagagawa bilang artista. Pag napunta ako sa pulitika, mas magiging abnormal [yun],” he said.

Robin ran for governor of Nueva Ecija a few years ago but failed on his bid.

He recently signed up with Star Cinema to star in a film. Padilla last worked under the Kapamilya banner four years ago, spearheading the reality boxing series, “Kamao.”
