From forums to social networking sites, fans can’t help but talk about Angelica Panganiban and Jayson Gainzas hilarious impersonations of Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda in “Banana Split,” which entered its fourth season last July 18 on ABS-CBN.

Not only has their segment “NNNN” become one of the most highly-anticipated portion of the gag show, it has also redefined Angelica and Jayson as actors.

Jayson said there was initially some pressure on their part when they learned about the new segment. “We just studied our roles and did our best. We are very happy that people look forward to watching us every week,” he said.

“Impersonating a respected TV host and former presidential daughter was not an easy task,” added Angelica. “We are just glad that we pulled it through.”

ABS-CBN production manager Cynthia Jordan said Jayson’s performance as Tito Bhoy worked so well for him that the actor was able to shed his identity as one of the “Parekoy” boys or a former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate. On the other hand, Angelica displayed her versatility as an actress by playing Crissy.

According to Direk Bobot Mortiz, he first thought of doing “NNNN” in “Goin Bulilit” but the child stars tapped to do Bhoy and Crissy were not available.

Aside from “Showbiz News Ngayon,” the show has also been spoofing the hit Korean drama series “Boys Over Flowers” titled “Boys Over Acting.” Another much-awaited segment weekly is “Brod, Bro, Bru, Level Up" with Zanjoe Marudo, John Prats, and Jayson giving different takes on a particular word.

Launched in October 2007, “Banana Split” was originally conceptualized by Director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz to be the female version of ’80s comedy hit “Goin Bananas.” It was topbilled by an all-star female cast. The show used its new and current format just last April where the additional cast members came in as part of its third season offering.

“It’s wholesome humor for everyone in the family,” said Cynthia. “And our artists are discovering something new about themselves, including their ability to make people laugh and for them to laugh at themselves.”

Don’t miss the exciting fourth season of “Banana Split,” Saturdays, after “XXX” on ABS-CBN.
