With the “quota system” being imposed by the organizing committee, the Philippines stands a good chance of surpassing the 15-20 gold medal projection made by Philippine Sport Commission chairman Harry Angping.

RP team chief of mission Mario Tanchangco on Friday said the guidelines set by SEA Games organizing committee will give each country equal chances of winning, especially in the combat sports.

Contact sports are badly hit by the new regulation of equality since a country is prohibited to take part in all events.

In the case of boxing where a total of 16 golds are at stake – 10 in the men’s and six in the women’s side – a participating country can only field six in the men’s and four in the women’s divisions.
