Police to talk with Roxas on abduction
Police investigators want to talk with Filipino-American militant activist Melissa Roxas about her alleged abduction and torture that may lead to the identification of the perpetrators.
Aside from Roxas, Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina, PNP spokesman, said they are also planning to meet with Juanito Carabeo and John Edward Jandoc, two of her companions who also claimed they were kidnapped and tortured by members of the military.
“We are now coordinating with the Commission on Human Rights and colleagues of Fil-Am activist Melissa Roxas for her availability to give further statements before police investigators,” said Espina.
The investigation, Espina said, will be done by members of the SITG-CAROJAN (Special Investigation Task Group-Carabeo, Roxas and Jandoc), which was earlier created to look deeper into Roxas’ abduction and torture allegations.
The task force, created to coordinate efforts of different investigative units of the PNP, is headed by Chief Superintendent Gil Meneses, deputy regional director for administration of Police Regional Office 3 in Central Luzon.
“We assure a swift action to investigate the alleged abduction of Fil-Am activist Melissa Roxas and her two colleagues from the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan,” said Espina.
The three claimed that they were kidnapped by 15 armed men whom they suspected to be soldiers in Tarlac in April this year. They claimed they were tortured and accused of being members of the New People’s Army.
Roxas denies military allegations that she is a communist rebel by two party-list members in Congress, one of them a former military officer, who claimed to have a video of her at an NPA training camp and testimony of two rebel returnees.
The military leadership denied that men from the 7th Infantry Division were responsible of the alleged kidnapping and torture.
Espina said the SITG CAROJAN has begun initial stages of investigation based primarily the sworn statement executed by Roxas almost three months ago.
“The supplemental statements of Melissa Roxas are essential to unearth more information that will assist in the investigation,” said Espina.
