RP takes on Lebanon in tune-up game
The Powerade Team Pilipinas plays Lebanon in an exhibition game on Saturday at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Katipunan during which the Filipinos will try to test their new game plan for the FIBA-Asia Championship in Tianjin, China,
The nationals lost to the Lebanese, 85-93, recently in the Jones Cup in Taipei, where they finished with a 2-6 win-loss card.
However, RP team coach Yeng Guiao is hoping that facing Lebanon in a closed-door scrimmage will provide them important pointers on where else to improve in time for the regional meet, which is the qualifying event for the 2010 World Championship in Turkey.
“It’s our last chance to see what final fine-tuning has to be done,” Guiao said. “Then, we have two days to make some adjustments.”
The Philippines is bracketed in Group A with South Korea, Japan, as well as Sri Lanka, but if the nationals can advance to the quarters, there’s a possibility of playing Lebanon, Iran, and Jordan.
