Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim said there will never be another “Tita Cory” as he joined the Aquino family and the entire nation in grieving for the loss of the country’s icon of democracy, whose remains will be transferred Monday to the Manila Cathedral.

Lim also said that the masses being offered for Mrs. Aquino at the Manila City Hall for the past two weeks while she was in the hospital will continue, this time for the 'eternal repose of her soul.’

Lim, a devout supporter of President Aquino, also called on the public to continue praying for the late President and her family.

“Let us all pray to God to give her family the strength they need in these trying times,” he said.

The mayor also praised Mrs. Aquino as a leader whose stewardship of the country was never tainted by any corruption.

The mayor also described Aquino as an epitome of righteousness, saying “what she stood for is against the might of the military, consisting of generals loyal to the dictatorship. I admire her for her audacity in standing up and fighting during the perilous times of Martial Law.”

“All public officials should emulate her example and those on the wrong side of history should change and mend their ways, stick to their oath and follow after President Aquino’s sterling and shining example of good governance,” Lim said.

Lim expressed hope that the present and future generations may be educated about President Aquino, for them to emulate when they become future leaders of the land.

Lim’s closeness to the former President is rooted to the role he played during the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Little known to many was the fact that the revolt could have faltered had Lim, who was then chief of the Northern Police District (NPD), decided to disperse the then relatively manageable crowds that gathered at EDSA during the two days following the late Cardinal Sin’s call for the people to proceed to EDSA.
