Midyear orchid and garden show
"Orchids for Health and Wellness” is the theme for the Philippine Orchid Society’s (POS) Midyear Orchid and Garden show slated August 27 to September 7, 2009. As usual, this will be held at the sunken garden fronting Quezon City Hall corner Elliptical Circle and East Avenue, Quezon City.
According to past POS president Kelvin Manubay, the theme was chosen in answer to the quest for good health and wellness. Growing orchids and gardening as a whole have therapeutic effects out of their greens, color, aroma and most of all the very important life saving element oxygen the plants provide us.
Orchid flowers are also known to be nutritious when eaten as a salad.
POS officers and members are encouraging the public to see the show and learn orchid growing and gardening through lecture-demonstrations on the various arts and techniques of orchid growing, indoor gardening and flower arrangement among others. The idea is to let them learn not only the leisure but also the monetary profits they will be able to acquire.
The show is divided into two sections – the landscape for one to appreciate the artistic way of arranging plants and the commercial for one to acquire plants. As usual there will be landscaping and individual plant competitions with ribbons, trophies and cash as prizes. For more details contact Jenny at 0917-8485468 or email philorchidsociety@gmail.com.
