Rescue team, BFP cited for saving family trapped on Ferris wheel
Members of the Muntinlupa Rescue Team and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) earned words of praise from the city mayor following their life-saving efforts last week.
Mayor Aldrin San Pedro cited the Rescue Team led by Steven Guinto and the BFP under Major Roderick Aguto for rescuing several people who were left stuck on a Ferris wheel after the machine malfunctioned.
“I wish to commend our city rescue team and fire department for their heroic act that prevented people from harm,” said San Pedro. “The exemplary performance of the men demonstrates the spirit of togetherness and cooperation of our people.”
On August 2, Guinto and Aguto’s men responded to an urgent call at Festival Mall when a Ferris wheel on its third-floor recreation area suddenly stopped sending its riders and other mall-goers into a panic.
Using ropes, an aerial ladder and other devices, the composite team managed to reach the people who were trapped at the topmost part of the joyride.
Among those rescued was an entire family identified as Ramil Arquileta, 41; his wife Ma. Teresa Arquileta, 40 and children Remiel Arquileta, 11, and Ramil Arquileta, eight.
The family members, who reside in Dasmariñas, Cavite, expressed their gratitude to the Rescue Team and BFP for their quick response during the emergency situation.
