Pasay urges marker at church where Aquinos got married
The Pasay City government, in recognition of the patriotic contributions to the country of former President Corazon Aquino and Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Sr., on Sunday asked the National Historical Institute to place a marker at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church where the two got married.
The request was made through a resolution sponsored by Councilor Noel “Ohnie” Bayona in recognizing the country’s two icons of democracy. Bayona said it is necessary that a historical mark be placed at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Harrison St., Pasay City where they got married on October 11, 1954.
He said that aside from Ayala Avenue corner Pasong Tamo in Makati City where a marker of Senator Aquino was placed to recognize his heroism and courage and the EDSA Shrine where the Filipino people gathered to fight the dictatorship, led by Mrs. Cory Aquino,” Pasay City is also part of their lives. The councilor also said that the city could be considered as part of Philippine history and in the lives of the Aquinos because this was the place where the two formally pronounced by the church as husband and wife after their wedding rites at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
He also said that because of heroism and love of country exhibited by the two it is only fitting that their lives are forever remembered by their countrymen by placing historical marks wherever they had celebrated important occasions in their lives, one of which was the place where they got married.
