Action film star-turned-Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla has confirmed that his wife, former beauty queen and actress Lani Mercado [Jesusa Victoria Hernandez-Bautista in real life] will be gunning for a seat in congress.

“She is filing for her candidacy this November,” Revilla said.

He added that Mercado’s decision to run was made upon the urging of the Barangay leaders from Bacoor.

 Mercado is the co-chairman of the Bacoor clean and green committee.

“She will be running for the lone congressional district of Bacoor,” Revilla disclosed.

Mercado was recently elected by Malacanang for a much-coveted position in the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) board.

“[But] Lani is definitely going to vacate that position come November.”

Still, Revilla couldn’t help himself from defending his wife’s appointment.

“It is legal [because] she was nominated by the board. Besides, she’s capable of doing her job.”

Revilla speculated that “crab mentality” could be the reason behind the dissent.

“Let’s give her a chance. She’s capable. She used to be a Dean’s Lister [in school].”
