TIANJIN, China, Aug 12, 2009 (AFP) - Power-forward Yi Jianlian scored 29 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead China to a 89-83 win over on Jordan Wednesday to end second round play in the FIBA-Asia Basketball Championships.

In a late game, reigning champions Iran opened up a 14-point lead in the second quarter to dispatch previously unbeaten South Korea 82-66 topping Group E and finalising quarter-final match ups which begin Friday.

China's NBA New Jersey Net forward was helped by former Dallas Maverick center Wang Zhizhi, who chipped in 23 points as China continued their unbeaten streak in front of a boisterous home crowd to top Group F.

"The whole team played well tonight, we controlled the tempo and everyone played hard," Yi said. "We still have our eyes on our final goal, and that is to win the championship. Now we must prepare for the next game."

China got off to a quick start taking a 12-2 lead behind the inside scoring of Wang who netted six points in the early going, and the Chinese never relinquished the lead.

The Jordanians stayed within striking distance througthout, pulling within 83-80 with 59 seconds on a dunk and free throw by Zaid Abbaas.

Jordan were led by American-born guard Rasheim Wright, who finished with 28 points.

In the late game, Iran used its size and 24 points from sharp shooting Hamed Afagh Eslamieh to beat South Korea and set up a quarter-final match against Qatar. South Korea will face Lebanon.

Memphis Grizzlies centre Hamed Ehadadi chipped in 21 points for the winners, while proving to be a towering presence for the Iranian defence which held South Korea to 37 percent shooting from the floor.

South Korea was led by shooters Yang Donggeun with 13 points and Kim Joo-Sung with 12.

In the other quarterfinals, China will meet Chinese Taipei, which dispatched Japan 99-79 earlier Wednesday, while Jordan will meet the Philippines.
