China awaits arrival of RP athletes
TIANJIN, China — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has urged athletes to take advantage of an offer from Chinese sports officials to avail of their training and coaching expertise to improve the Filipinos’ chances in the Southeast Asian Games.
In particular, PSC chairman Harry Angping said China has offered its coaches and opened its facilities to athletes from diving, badminton, table tennis, volleyball and shooting.
With the SEA Games just three months away, Angping said officials of these five sports should move now as time is running out.
"Kumbaga sa bar exam, cramming na tayo nito as we only have three months to prepare for the SEA Games," said Angping, who arrived here Monday afternoon to support to PowerAde-Team Pilipinas squad’s campaign in the 25th FIBA-Asia men’s basketball championship.
Angping has suggested that diving and table tennis athletes should train in China while those from badminton, volleyball and shooting can train in Manila with the help of Chinese coaches who are willing to travel to the Philippines.
"Mas magandang dito mag-traing `yung mga divers and table tennis players natin dahil maraming competitions dito, he said. “Magandang training ‘yung ang nilalabanan mo ay ‘yung mas magaling sa iyo."
"At the same time, they have state-of-the-art facilities which are conducive to proper training," added the former Manila congressman.
