Ex-treasurer, employee in P18-M case arrested
Antipolo City — Policemen arrested last Wednesday the former municipal treasurer of Angono, Rizal, and an administrative staff of the auditor’s office in connection with a case of P18-million missing cash in the local government’s safety vault.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Henrietta Miranda, former Angono municipal treasurer, and Juanita Ajero-Bernadez, staff of the auditor’s office.
They were arrested last Wednesday night by policemen at Bloomingdale subdivision, Barangay San Pedro, Angono while they were on their way home.
The arrest of the two personnel was authorized by a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Dennis Patrick Perez of the Regional Trial Court based in Binangonan, Rizal.
The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office had earlier recommended the filing of criminal charges against the treasurer and the employee after it found "prima facie evidence" that would “allow the case to stand strong against them in the midst of the hearing.”
The P18-million cash kept in the municipal treasurer’s vault was found missing in December 2007 or six months after the then newly installed mayor, Aurora Villamayor, took over the rein of the municipal government, records show.
