Rosales, Pangasinan — The National Food Authority (NFA) is being asked to purchase more corn from farmers this harvest season.

Thousands of farmers all over the country started harvesting corn this month.

Abono party-list Chairman Rosendo O. So said that farmer-corn growers, particularly those in Regions 1 and 2, are expected to have a bountiful harvest.

“Kailangan matulungan ang mga magsasaka na maibenta ito sa tamang halaga lalo na ngayong panahon ng tag-hirap,” So said.

The leader of the party-list group and Congressmen Robert “Eskimo” Estrella and Francisco “Pacoy” Ortega asked the NFA to buy all corn produced by the peasants, saying this would be a big help for them during this lean period.

Chairman So said that the NFA procures corn at P13 per kilo, while the present farmgate price of corn is P8 per kilo.

The P5 price difference goes a long way in improving the lot of the farmers, So said.
