Will romance bloom between Geoff and Carla?
Carla Abellana and Geoff Eigenmann, who play the lead roles in the nightly drama series, “Rosalinda,” don’t feel pressured to bring their on-screen partnership to real life.
Carla admitted, though, that when they started working on the GMA-7 soap three months ago, she felt many people want her and Geoff to fall for each other for real.
“I think we’ve reached a level na hindi na namin kailangan ma-pressure,” she told Manila Bulletin Online on Aug. 14 during a visit on the set of “Rosalinda” in a café in Quezon City.
Geoff added, “We just go with the flow kumbaga. What’s asked from us, ginagawa namin.”
Finding each other likable is not imposed on them by the network or production. Geoff and Carla simply admire each other’s good qualities and are delighted to discover new things about each other.
“We are closer now more than ever,” said the commercial model-turned-actress who recreates the title role of Mexican star Thalia in the Philippine version of the hit soap opera. “I’ve learned to appreciate everything that he does for me. I understand him. I know na so many things about him because he’s open, he talks to me. He’s a good person. He’s very nice.”
“We’re now comfortable with each other,” her leading man who plays Fernando Jose concurred. “I can say that Carla is one of the closest friends I have now. She’s very dear to me.”
Geoff even considered Carla as someone he could bring home to his mother, actress-director Gina Alajar, whose approval he seeks before going into a romantic relationship.
“She’s perfect. Lahat ng p’wede kong hanapin sa isang babae nasa kanya,” he said of Carla, who’s the granddaughter of actress Delia Razon and the daughter of actor Rey “PJ” Abellana.
Both stars are also single at the moment.
“It’s just a matter of time to let things fall into place,” he said.
Geoff shared that he hasn’t fallen in love with his past leading ladies, which included Heart Evangelista in two projects, because he had always drawn a line between work and love.
“If you don’t take care of what you show people around you, ikaw din ang masasaktan in the end kung iba pala ang iniisip mo sa iniisip niya. Mag-o-all out ka tapos wala kang makukuha in the end. So there should be a line,” he explained.
“But yeah there’s a first time for everything,” he added when asked if it would be possible for him to fall for Carla.
Watching them having lunch together during a break on the set, with Geoff even “feeding” Carla using his spoon, that possibility seemed nearly a reality.
