Tanay, Rizal – Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted simultaneous raids here and in Pasay City against five establishments that were allegedly selling and distributing counterfeit Casio calculators estimated to be worth P2 million.

Raided were the Tanay Power Home Commercial in Tanay and Omni Source Merchandising, Celtab's General Merchandise and two storage facilities in Pasay City.

A total of 1,665 pieces of counterfeit Casio electronic and scientific calculators were seized, police said.

The raids were conducted based on the complaint filed by MCP Law, the legal counsel of Casio Computer Co., Ltd.

Prior to the raids, agents from the Anti-Fraud and Computer Crimes Division (AFCCD) of the NBI, together with CCCL’s investigators, IP Manila Associates, conducted a surveillance and test-buy from the above-mentioned establishments.

The operatives reportedly established that the five establishments were engaged in the selling and distribution of counterfeit products.

The agents were armed with 10 search warrants for trademark infringement and unfair competition, or two search warrants each against the five establishments issued by Judge Ofelia Arellano-Marquez of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216.
