‘Awesome’ Geek Toys
Would you believe that this is actually my first time to write about gadgets? So to get me in the right frame of mind, I went through some gadget articles and reviews in both online and in paper.
But why be serious for my inaugural gadget run and at the same time why look at only one?
I want to do FUN and what better way to start off my gadget run with MB (that’s Manila Bulletin to you folks :P) than with geek stuff that are amazing, ingenious, and entertaining at the same time.
I took a long hard look at some stuff from the Internet and used my inner “I’ve got to have it” meter to select some items that I would want to have. Fair warning though, much of it might not have any usable value at all!
It is also MY list and hence was based on my own weird sense of preference and follows no standard rating convention.
The Phantom Key Stroker
Slide this harmless looking ‘USB thumbdrive’ into any computer and the fun begins. It emulates a keyboard & mouse and makes random cursor movements, toggles the caps-lock and also types out weird text garbage. Talk about ghost in the machine!
The USB Rocket Launcher
This nifty toy, connects to your computer via (you’ve guessed it!) USB!It is standard weaponry that no respecting cubicle dweller should be caught without. Great! Huh? Not quite, there’s a model with a built in webcam and dig this – another model with Laser guidance! Now, how cool is that??
Wi-Fi Detector T-Shirt
This is what I call fully ‘Interactive’ clothing! Now, you don’t need to open your laptop or take out your cell phone (assuming it has Wi-Fi capability) to check for the presence of a Wi-Fi signal. The glowing blue bars on the shirt actually changes based on the signal strength! Bask in awesome geekness!
The Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard
I forgot which sci-fi movie it was but that scene where they whip out this gadget and started typing on a keyboard projected on the table via laser just wouldn’t go away!So finally, its reality and it would be so sweet to ‘type’ into a ‘virtual’ keyboard all with the simulated sounds and clicks. Works with blue tooth powered devices.
The USB Doomsday Device
While I don’t think this device actually does anything than act as a four-port USB expander, you must admit it looks really intimidating. And for all of you guys who lived through the cold war and old James Bond movies, this surely evokes some chilling memories. Enable the device by activating switches #1 and #2 and then turning the all important key. The red button lights up and now what’s left is to lift the protective cover and press. See how exciting that was?Star Trek Communicator and Phaser
How else can you beam down the Enterprise and start your mission to “Go Where no Man has gone Before..” without these Trekker essentials?
And lastly..
The Flux Capacitor
I’m a ‘Back to the Future’ fan. So sue me! Oh Come on! Who didn’t have a crush on Lea Thompson?
