The Pasay City government on Tuesday held a job fair where seven overseas and 40 local companies offered work to local residents.

According to Jorge Castro, chief of the Pasay Employment and Services Office, the job fair is one of the many service offerings by the city to its constituents to celebrate the birthday of Mayor Wenceslao “Peewee” Trinidad.

The job fair was held at the Pasay City Mall along Libertad Street. About 2,000 jobseekers flocked to the event in the hope of finding permanent employment.

Castro said they invited representatives of 15 overseas employers to join the job fair but only seven were given special recruitment authority by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to take part in the event.

The PESO chief said that asking the POEA to grant special recruitment authority to overseas companies they invited is one way of ensuring that the participating firms are all authorized to deploy overseas Filipino workers.

Aside from the participating companies, the Social Security System, National Bureau of Investigation, Philhealth and TESDA also joined the affair and put up one-stop-shops to serve the needs of jobseekers.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration likewise set up booths for those who want to secure electronic passports.
