Raptors send Delfino to Bucks in NBA deal
TORONTO, August 18, 2009 (AFP) - Carlos Delfino, a guard from Argentina who spent last season playing in Russia, was traded Tuesday by the Toronto Raptors to the Milwaukee Bucks in a four-player NBA deal.
The Raptors obtained forward Amir Johnson and swingman Sonny Weems while the Bucks received Delfino and Croatian guard Roko Ukic.
"Carlos made it clear he would prefer to play elsewhere if he were to return to the NBA," Raptors president Bryan Colangelo said.
"There were limited sign and trade scenarios available, but acquiring Amir Johnson in this deal gives us another long, talented young big man whose best basketball is ahead of him."
Delfino averaged 9.0 points and 4.4 rebounds for Toronto in the 2007-2008 season while Ukic, who played six seasons in Europe before reaching the NBA last season, averaged 4.2 points, 2.1 assists, and 12.4 minutes in 72 games.
Johnson, who played four seasons for Detroit before being traded to the Bucks in June, led the Pistons with a 59.5 percent shooting accuracy rate while averaging 3.5 points and 3.7 rebounds.
Weems played in 14 games as a rookie with Denver last season.
