The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will be meeting with flour millers and bakers separately, who are once again trading barbs, to thresh out the issue of price of flour and bread products.

Trade and Industry Undersecretary Zenaida C. Maglaya told reporters that bakers claimed that price rollback per 25-bag of flour should be P30 already and not P10 only.

“I cannot order the millers to follow what the bakers want so I have to get the basis for the P10 price rollback,” she said.

Maglaya said that small bakers are not reducing their prices but said they are supposed to be increasing the weight of pan de sal to 23 grams to 25 grams a piece to reflect the P10 price reduction in flour.

“But when you talk of weight, there is no way to check,” Maglaya said.

As a result, the DTI standard size of a 20 gram per piece of pan de sal for P1.50 apiece is being loosely implemented.
