Back in college, I had a professor whose daily style consisted of a white, long-sleeved shirt and black linen trousers. When asked why he chose to look the same everyday, he answered that it was the perfect ensemble for morning to night. Plus, it freed him from the task of having to choose what to wear.

In recent years, I’ve come to learn the benefits of sticking to a fashion very much like that of my college professor’s. Of course, it won’t be just a long-sleeved shirt and pants for me, in a way, my professor’s creed is a wise sartorial strategy.

A clearly upcoming trend for the next season, black and white ensembles are universal in appeal and can transition from morning office meetings to late evening nights out. The likes of Moschino, Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simons, Miharayasuhiro, and Alexis Mabille all sent models in their best, contrasting ensembles. For Fall 2009, Dries Van Noten and Dolce and Gabbana are seen with the most classic looks in black and white.

To achieve a natural style, pick pieces that have classic lines and cuts. Don’t go for trendy silhouettes as these would only work with certain pieces as well. Observe proper editing with accessories as not to overpower the simplicity of the black and white look. However, do create your own look as this trend is very popular.
