Part of the perks of having a relationship with an artist is that you get to be immortalized when a piece of art is done for you. Aiza Seguerra, who is one of the more reliable young musicians we have in the business, did not pass the opportunity to go the extra mile and make girlfriend Chen Sarte know how much she feels for her by writing the only original track in the artist’s latest CD “Aiza Seguerra: Live.”

The song “Tanging Ikaw” with words and music by Aiza expresses the leaps of boundless love.

“Meron lang isang original dito. I wrote a song for her yung ‘Tanging Ikaw.’ I wrote it one time na natutulog siya tapos nasa baba lang ako, nag-strum-strum lang tapos may pumasok na words sa utak ko na may bagay na music,” Aiza disclosed to the Manila Bulletin during the recent launch of her CD held at Mugen bar inside the Metrowalk compound in Ortigas.

Like the poignant love song, Aiza said her relationship with Chen is on the best level and has been going well for quite some time now. “Five years na kami and going very very strong.”

The singer-songwriter disclosed that there is desire to get married to Chen in the future. “Yung mga ganyang bagay, amin na lang yun. Siyempre lahat naman ng relationship nangangarap na dun ang tuloy.”

Well aware of being in a field where temptation is abound, Aiza said she values Chen’s trust and their happiness too much to allow anything to break what they have. “Masaya ka eh so you wouldn’t want to do anything na ikakasira ng kasiyahan mo. Sa lahat ng couple may conflicts. Normal magkaproblema so kailangan ayusin pag meron. Wala pa namang mabigat na dumaan kasi ayaw namin mawala kami [from each other]. Kung may init ng ulo, sama ng loob, we work it out.”

More than career [blessings], I’m all for harmonious relationships.”

LOYALTY TO ‘EAT BULAGA’

Aiza was also made to comment about something Willie Revillame said that the singer could not guest on “Wowowee.” The former child actress said it’s by choice that she does not want to be seen on “Wowowee.”

“Sa ‘Wowowee’ ayoko. It’s by choice. They have asked me to guest a lot of times already but my loyalty is with ‘Eat Bulaga’ dun ako nagsimula. It’s loyalty. Loyalty that will always be with them. Kahit anong network puwedeng kumuha sa akin, basta huwag lang sa show na katapat ng ‘Eat Bulaga.’ Walang problema basta hindi masasagasaan ang ‘Eat Bulaga,’” she said.

Aiza is one of the few artists who can cross over ABS-CBN and GMA-7. Although she is under a label contract with Star Records, she gets to guest on GMA shows, particularly on “Eat Bulaga.”

“[It’s an] advantage that I can guest pa rin sa GMA. Though like now that I am a regular sa ‘ASAP,’ hindi ako makapag-guest sa ‘SOP.’ I mean thankful talaga ako na tinatawagan pa rin ako ng GMA. I mean freelance naman talaga ako. Hindi ako under any network. Naipapaalam naman lahat eh... nakaka-guest pa rin ako sa ‘Eat Bulaga.’ I mean wala lang bypass-an,” stated Aiza who even sang the theme (“Friend Of Mine”) for the Kapuso soap “All My Life.”

SINGAPORE CD PUSHING THROUGH

Aiza also clarified that the offer to release an album in Singapore is still happening. She just had to prioritize her second live album. “Dapat sabay gagawin itong live album and yung Singapore album kaya lang ang gusto nila for November release so hindi talaga kakayanin.

Siguro pag medyo nag-die down na yung promotion nito [we can start making the other album].

Nag-send na kasi sila ng songs na hopefully we can arrange and record here for Singapore release. Nasa e-mail pa lang lahat.”

Obviously, Aiza wanted to stick to her music career. When asked about acting offers, she answered, “Acting ngayon [is] not really my priority. Di ba, nag-‘Isabella’ ako before, sobrang hindi ako nakakapag-gig. Feeling ko mas gusto kong maging singer. Paminsan-minsan TV but ngayon talaga mas concentrate sa singing.”

Speaking of gigs, the “Live” CD contains the most requested gig songs Aiza has been performing. “Actually itong ‘Aiza Live’ mostly most-requested-songs during gigs. Star Records took care of the rights then yung ibang song naman like ‘Paglisan’ and ‘Bilanggo’ are composed by Mike [Villegas, who is part of the band] so walang problema.”

During the album launch, Aiza was introduced as “the pride of Star Records” and no words could be more real when it comes to Aiza’s recording catalogue for Star Records. Her last CD “Open Arms” came out only late last year.

For the “Aiza Seguerra: Live” record, the artist stayed with her arsenal of seamless acoustic arrangements and good choice of covers. Apart from “Tanging Ikaw,” the album banks on a steady lineup of songs that the Filipino ear never gets tired of hearing. The people behind the CD made sure anyone has a favorite in the list, or at the very least, a song worth hearing over and over.

The cuts are “Runaway,” “Kiss From A Rose,” “Ipagpatawad Mo,” “Everytime,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Bette Davis Eyes,” “Paglisan,” “Bilanggo,” “Isipin Mo Na Lang,” the single “Anything For You,” “Iris,” “Magasin,” “Man In The Mirror,” and “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

(Aiza will be at SM North EDSAtoday, Aug 22 before she performs in a special birthday concert on Sept. 17.)
