KC Concepcion is ‘US Girls’ icon
“Us Girls,” a lifestyle program aired Sunday nights on Studio 23, honored singer-actress KC Concepcion as “icon” with "distinct fashion sense and personal style" in the first ever “Us Girls August Awards” held on Aug. 20 at Eastwood Park in Libis, Quezon City.
KC, stunning in a blue-green bustier gown, accepted the award from “Us Girls” hosts Angel Aquino, Iya Villania and Megan Young, who all looked equally dazzling in their all-black ensembles.
She thanked the people behind the show and the choir who sang “An Updated Version of Me,” a track from her debut album “A.K.A. Cassandra.”
Other winners in the “Us Girls August Awards” as "ladies of impeccable sense of style" were Anne Curtis, Divine Lee, Marie Lozano and Bianca Valerio.
Teen star Kim Chiu, 20-something Isabelle Daza and Tweetie de Leon were named "loveliest faces" in their respective age brackets. Isabelle was the only winner among the three who personally accepted her award. Kim said her thanks in a pre-taped video.
“Us Girls” also honored top stylists Rex Atienza, Pam Quinones, Liz Uy and Bianca Santiago, as well as ace makeup artists Krist Bansuelo, Bobby Carlos, Barbi Chan and Jigs Mayuga.
Cheska Garcia, who’s on an extended maternity leave from her “Us Girls” hosting chores, attended the event with her cager-husband Doug Kramer.
“I miss my co-hosts Angel and Iya,” she said. “I was able to spend time with them even when I was pregnant because they’d visit me at home.
“I feel excited because this is one of the few times that I’ve gone out -- and I’m happy to see my friends again.”
Cheska won’t be returning to the show any time soon, though.
“I haven’t talked to anybody [about my return to the show] because I’m still taking care of the baby. I’ve given birth magtu-two months pa lang so my focus right now is on the baby. But we’ll see by September,” she said.
Cheska gave birth to her and Doug’s firstborn, Clair Kendra, last June 25.
“I’m enjoying the baby. Motherhood is a whole new thing for me. It has changed me a lot!” she gushed.
Cheska and the majority of the awardees and guests all turned up in black; interpreted in their unique stylish way as espoused by the show.
Angel said in an earlier interview with Manila Bulletin Online that three years after its debut on the tube, it’s about time that “Us Girls” is recognized as a brand, or “a true fashion authority of everything glam and chic.”
