Laoang, Northern Samar – A massive restoration of mangrove trees will soon be launched by coastal barangays in Laoang, Northern Samar.

Laoang Mayor Madeleine Mendoza-Ong said she will be implementing mangrove restoration in her town as soon as they receive the P5 million financial assistance pledged to her local government unit (LGU) by Northern Samar (2nd District) Representative Emil L. Ong.

Mayor Ong said the P5 million released by Rep.Ong to her town will be coming from the solon's Priority Development Fund (PDF) aimed at planting their coastal barangays with mangrove trees.

She lauded Rep. Ong for the release of funds to her town saying it would be a big help to them in their efforts to plant thousands of mangrove propagules in their coastal barangays.

The Laoang Mayor also said she is now coordinating with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Pambujan to help her LGU provide technical assistance to the mangrove reforestation activity.
