Good weather to prevail this week in Luzon
Good weather will prevail over Luzon this week, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Mario Palafox, PAGASA weather forecaster, said no typhoon is expected to form at least until Thursday. Palafox said the low pressure area (LPA) — a rain-inducing weather system — which was at 550 kms northeast of Basco, Batanes at 2 a.m. Monday, was expected to dissolve and will not have significant effects on the country’s weather.
Another LPA is expected to form east of northern Luzon this week but is unlikely to develop into a typhoon, he said.
Thus, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy weather at least until Thursday, Palafox said.
Visayas and Mindanao is forecast to have mostly cloudy weather with a light to moderate southwesterly surface windflow.
Palafox said the heavy downpour last Friday night was caused by a convergence of winds coming from the southwest and northeast that affected Metro Manila.
Friday’s overnight rains resulted to widespread floods in the metropolis.
In its weather forecast issued at 5 a.m. Monday, the state weather bureau said Visayas and Mindanao Monday will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
“The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Light to moderate winds blowing from the northwest to west will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms.
