Manila project wins award in Denmark
Soroptimist International Manila Tourist Belt President Lita Hizon Sunday announced that SI Manila Tourist Belt’s project on anti-human trafficking has been selected as the Winner for the SI Best Practices Award during the recent Soroptimist International Board meeting in Denmark.
“I am very happy to announce that SI Manila Tourist Belt has earned another recognition for its work in "improving the lives of women and girls in local communities,’’ Hizon said.
The award was for SI Manila Tourist Belt’s “SIMTB Declares War: The Energy is Human Trafficking’’, a project that seeks to defeat human trafficking by empowering women and girls through education and employable skills.
Alice A. Wells, Soroptimist International of the Americas President, informed Hizon of the award through a letter last week.
Wells said the award is for projects that “end human trafficking and all forms of violence against women and girls.’’
“This prestigious award recognizes especially club projects that serve to further the SI programme focus goals. We are very delighted that SI Manila Tourist Belt has received its special recognition in honor of your work to improve the lives of women and girls,’’ Wells told Hizon in her letter.
Soroptimist International President Margaret Lobo and the SI International Program team have congratulated Hizon and SI Manila Tourist Belt for the feat, describing their work in promoting SI program focus goals and objectives “outstanding’’.
In accepting the award for SI Manila Tourist Belt, Hizon said she will continue the club tireless efforts to prevent women and girls in their communities becoming victims of human trafficking by providing them with all the education and skills that will help them in pursuing decent lives.
