A 29-year-old suspected holdupper was killed when he allegedly shot it out with policemen after robbing three persons in Tondo, Manila on Sunday afternoon.

Slain was Edwin Garcia, alias “Jason Mendoza” and “Lupin,” an alleged member of the Sputnik Gang, and resident of 428 Tahong Alley Caloocan City.

He died on arrival at the Tondo General Hospital due to wounds in the body from the bullet fired by Police Officer 1 Elgen Afable and Police Officer 3 Claveland Mananghaya, both detailed at the Police Community Precinct (PCP) Raxabago - MPD-Station 1.

The police operation resulted in the arrest of Garcia’s companion identified as Jay-Jay Toledo, 20, bachelor, member of the Sputnik Gang, Building 22 Permanent Housing, Balut Tondo, Manila.

Detective Jay Santos, of the MPD-homicide section, said the incident occurred at 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Rodriguez and Villado Streets, Balut, Tondo.

Prior to the incident, the MPD-Station 1 received a complaint from Dennis Parras, 19; Melanie Garing, 23, and Jamella Javier, 11 who were victims of robbery-holdup.

Supt. Roderick Mariano, chief of the MPD-Station 1, deployed Afable and Mananghaya, to respond to the scene of the incident and spotted the alleged robbers still in the place apparently looking for prospective victims.

Seeing the approaching policemen, the two tried to elude arrest by running away.

The lawmen chased the two and arrested Toledo.

Garcia fired shots at the lawmen. The two policemen retaliated, hitting Garcia. (With a report by Katherine Mae Del Rosario)
