Bb. Pilipinas 2008 winner Janina San Miguel wowed the press when she wittily answered questions thrown at her during the “Celebrity Duets” press conference held Aug. 24.

Asked what her is edge over the other contestants Jomari Yllana, Mikaela Bilbao, Nonito Donaire, Akihiro Sato, Maxie Cinco, Joel Cruz, Gina Alajar and Niccolo Cosme, she replied with utter poise.

"Ang panglaban ko, beauty and confidence. I'll do my best and Lord God will do the rest. We have a purpose and a reason." 
  
It was a far cry from the Janina San Miguel the public knew from a controversial question and answer portion in Bb. Pilipinas just a year ago:

Vivian Tan (one of the Bb Pilipinas 2008 judges): What role did your family play in the Bb Pilipinas bid?

Janina: Well, my family’s role for me is so important. Because der was d… deyr… dey was the one… who’s very… haha… Oh, I’m so sorry. Uhm My pamily… my family, oh my god.

Paolo Bediones (off-mic): Pwede mag-Tagalog. Sige lang, sige lang.

Janina: Ok. I’m so sorry.

Paolo Bediones (off-mic): Okay lang yan.

Janina: I’m so sorry…I… I told you that I’m so confident. Eto, uhm, wait. Hahahaha. Uhm… Sorry guys… because this was really my first pageant ever. Because I’m only 17-years old! And ahahaa… I.. I did not expect that I came from, I came from one of TAF Ten… Mhmm… Sooo…. But I said DUT my family is the most important persons in my life. Thank you.

Nonetheless, San Miguel was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-World. She later opted out of her contract citing health reasons.   

Janina amused the press anew when she was asked who she wants to do a duet with.

"Sa maniwala kayo't sa hindi, ang crush ko sa showbiz ay si Michael V.. Gusto ko siya maka-duet. Gusto ko, sa grand finals maka-duet si Jamie Rivera. Gusto ko kasi maka-God. At saka si Jay-R para may maka-duet akong matangkad," she said.
 
Janina also explained where she intends to spend half of her winnings in case she'd be crowned “Celebrity Duets” Grand Champion. 
 
"Charity begins at home. I have a special child na brother so I would help mga special children. Lagi kong susuportahan ang kapatid ko most especially SPED or Tahanang Walang Hagdanan."
 
Janina diffused rumor linking her to a top executive of TV5.
 
"Ay hindi naman po totoo, eh. Siguro po may reporter na nakakita na may meeting with beauty queens.  Siyempre, beauty queens, kadalasan nali-link sa mga beauty queens 'yong ganon,  Okay lang po as long as wala ka namang ginagawang masama, go ka lang. Ba't ka matatakot?”
 
She said that a TV project she was supposed to do for TV 5 went kaput because "'yong dapat na kapatid ko-- si Sandra, who is also my friend--nanalo siya (sa ‘Miss Earth’)."
     
Janina revealed that she will join another contest in October.
 
"Mayroon akong sasalihang contest. Hindi na siya beauty contest. Abangan n'yo.S’yempre, model na ako ngayon."
 
And why is she still loveless until now?
 
"Tingnan mo naman ako, ang laki-laki ko, di ba? Ayoko po ng mga baskteball player kasi baka matalbugan nila ako."
