Libera to hold 'celestial' concert in Manila

With their mystical chords and ecstatic harmonies (often performed in Latin), Libera is unlike any other “boy band” in the music scene nowadays.
Familiar to audiences across the world-- from the United States and Great Britain to Japan and Korea—the celestial music of this vocal group is lauded for sounding ancient and modern at the same time.
Filipino fans will get a chance to experience Libera music live when the group holds a concert at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on October 25, 2009.
The concert is in lieu of promoting their PolyEast Records releases “Eternal: The Best of Libera,” a two-CD Greatest Hits Collection, and “Angel Voices – Libera Live in Concert” on DVD.
Libera is well known to UK audiences through TV appearances and staged concerts at venues as diverse as the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and Arundel Cathedral. Bookings in 2008 include an appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and at St Peter’s Cathedral in Belfast.
Libera has made many TV appearances including BBC-TV’s “Last Choir Standing,” on which the Libera boys were featured as guests. They were winners of the Saturday night show “When Will I Be Famous” and recently had a whole documentary devoted to them on BBC-TV’s “Songs of Praise.”
In the US, Libera is known through their concert tours and TV appearances including a nationwide PBS special which was filmed in Holland. The boys had their debut at the Kennedy Center Honors, where they performed in front of the President and a hall full of celebrities - including Robert de Niro, Cameron Diaz, Diana Ross, Steve Martin and Brian Wilson.
The boys were privileged to close the Kennedy Center Honours with a moving tribute to honoree Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Diana Ross was amongst many who were moved to tears as Libera held the house spellbound with its performance of the Beach Boys song “Love and Mercy.”
This was followed by Libera’s participation in the Papal Mass at the climax of Pope Benedict XVI’s first visit to the US. Performing to a capacity congregation of 65,000 at New York’s Yankee Stadium, Libera was the only British group to take part in this historical event. The Yankee Stadium appearance was the culmination of their first US “Angel Voices” tour (including a performance at New York’s Riverside Church), as well as concerts in Buffalo, Hartford, Albany and Pittsburgh.
Early this year, Libera appeared in concert at the amazing Crystal Cathedral in California and sang as part of the church’s television broadcast which was transmitted to millions across the world.
Libera’s unique sound is admired by filmmakers and soundtrack composers. This has led to session work with composers like Hans Zimmer in the masterpiece “Hannibal” by Ridley Scott and Jocelyn Pook in the artistic piece “The Merchant of Venice” by Michael Radford.
In East Asia, the sounds of Libera are frequently heard in mainstream TV and radio programmes, and their CDs ride high in their classical and pop charts.
Libera’s big break in Japan came in the huge hit “Far Away,” the theme song of NHK TV drama “Hyoheki.” Then they sang “You Were There” for Ryoichi Kimizuka’s film “Nobody to Watch Over Me” starring Koichi Sato and Yoshino Kimura. Both songs were written by Takatsugu Muramatsu, a noted Japanese composer and Robert Prizeman, the music director and producer of Libera.
