TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The peace effort of the government is gaining headway after two prominent clans in the province finally decided to end their long standing “rido” (family feud) that have reportedly claimed many innocent lives from both sides.

The major breakthrough in the peace building efforts of the provincial government of Lanao del Norte is also looking forward for more progress and development in this province.

Almost 100 members of the Cawasa and Mamay clans attended the regular session of the sangguniang panlalawigan (SP) at the Provincial Capitol Building here and sealed their commitment to work for peace, end the cycle of violence in their families, where each clan vowed to help the government make the province more developed and progressive.

The leaders of the two clans also swore before the “Holy Koran” to abide by the peace covenant they signed and adhere to the pact.

The signing of the covenant was witnessed by ranking government officials of the province led by Lanao del Norte Gov. Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo, Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo (2nd District, Lanao del Norte), SP members and other concerned government agency heads, including ranking military and police officials in the area.

Before the peace covenant took place, a special task force was created by the governor to help mediate and resolve the standing “rido” between the Mamay and Cawasa clans.
