An evening with the 'Ladies of the Nineties'

The ’90s was one of the best decades in music, especially for OPM. Rachel Alejandro, Geneva Cruz, Roselle Nava, and Jessa Zaragoza are proud to belong to that decade, and will celebrate it in grand style in their one-night concert billed “Ladies of the ’90s” at the Skydome of SM North EDSA Friday, Aug. 29.
A production of Viva Concerts and Events, “Ladies of the ’90s” is presented by PCSO with the help of Manila Bulletin, Philippine STAR, Businessworld, People’s Journal, PBO, Viva Prime, Viva Cinema, 90.7 Love Radio, 101.1 Yes FM, 93.9 IFM and 97.1 Barangay LS.
All the songs that they popularized – classics like Rachel’s “Paalam Na,” “Mr. Kupido,” and her version of her father’s hit “Nakapagtataka;” Geneva’s “Kailan,” “Anak ng Pasig,” and “Di Na Ako Aasa” (a 1998 song that she composed herself); Roselle’s “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita,” “Mahal Mo Ba’y Di Na Ako,” and “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita;” and Jessa’s “Bakit Pa,” “Di Ba’t Ikaw,” and “Siya Ba Ang Dahilan” – will be heard once more.
“The idea is just to celebrate the ’90s and give us and the audience a chance to relive the music of that decade,” says Jessa, who is temporarily home in Manila from the US where she and Dingdong are based with daughter Jayda. She has just released an album, and with this concert, is on her way to completing her planned comeback in local music.
Rachel, aside from being preoccupied with performing, is also busy with Sexy Chef, the restaurant she put up with sister Barni. Roselle is busy running her music school, which now has two branches, one in Parañaque, and the other, along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City. Geneva is also busy with her own career but always welcomes opportunities to do shows like this, since “it’s not just about music, it’s also about friendship. I miss working with these ladies, so it’s always fun when we get to still do concerts together.”
“Ladies of the ’90s” is directed by Roxanne Lapus with Marc Lopez as Musical Director. Tickets are priced at P1,500 (Silver) and P1,750 (Gold).
