US sports exec bats for strong baseball program
A top official of a US baseball organization said the Philippines has the opportunity to revive the sport with the right development program.
Speaking at a media forum on Friday, American Baseball Foundation Inc. executive director David Osinski said the sport can be strengthened if nurtured through a continuous systematic approach.
“Educating kids and athletes about the sport, formulating programs that will help encourage them are just one of the factors,” Osinski said in the SCOOP sa Kamayan. “Identifying talents, expanding and nurturing the talent pool come next.”
Osinski, who worked with the Australian baseball association in the 80s, arrived in Manila last Tuesday to hold clinics in Alabang and conduct research on young pitchers in Los Banos, Laguna.
Osinski said identifying the perfect system and program that is applicable to bring athletes into the next level is also a major concern.
“There is a lot of room for improvement. But such disadvantages like lack of enough resources hinders most of the programs of the baseball federation in this country,” Osinski said. “Also the bigger question is, what type of program suitable for Filipino athletes must be implemented in order to help them play in the next level like in the United States.”
