The country’s independent power producers (IPPs) have sought the help of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM), successor-company of National Power Corporation, to straighten out issues and concerns relating to real property tax (RPT) payments covering their power facilities.

The Philippine Independent Power Producers Association (PIPPA) recently met with PSALM on the matter; wherein the power companies raised lingering dilemmas over RPT arrears which should have been for the account of NPC or the other government-entity counter-parties including the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), in the IPP agreements.

PIPPA president Ernesto B. Pantangco confirmed the meeting with PSALM, noting that the IPPs will be submitting a position paper that shall discuss their issues with relevant government agencies, primarily the Departments of Finance and Justice.

“We’ve had preliminary discussions on the issues. We have a letter addressed to PSALM for urgent resolution,” he stressed.
