The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday that it is keeping an eye on a new low-pressure area (LPA) which is slowly moving west of Luzon.

But PAGASA said that the LPA will still have no effect on the country’s weather condition because it is still far from the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

“The southwest monsoon is too strong that it pushes the LPA towardsthe direction of Japan,” PAGASA said.

Weather specialist Mario Palafox said that if the LPA will enter the country and will enhance to become a cyclone, it will be named “Labuyo.”

Also, a monsoon trough is currently experienced in the whole country that brings mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

Palafox said monsoon trough is an area where northeast and southwest winds meet, which enhances cloudy skies and rainshowers in the country. He said that this is similar to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), however it is the eastern winds that meet in this weather phenomenon.

PAGASA said the whole country will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in the next three days.

“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough,” PAGASA said.

“Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas,” it added.
