After providing health insurance coverage to all regular city government employees, the city government of Caloocan announced over the weekend that it will also extend the insurance coverage to some 2,800 job-order workers of the City Hall.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri said the insurance program that will be provided in partnership with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be one of the key elements of Caloocan’s social safety net for all its job order personnel.

Echiverri said once the insurance program is implemented, it will enable local government contractual workers and their dependents to better adjust to economic and market changes and challenges. “The free health and insurance program will act as an economic stabilizer for them and their families,” he noted.

The city mayor said the city government is aware of the challenges job-order workers are facing in these extraordinary economic times, particularly as prices of goods and health services skyrocket at irregular time intervals.

The city will be earmarking P18 million in funds to subsidize the local government’s share in the PhilHealth insurance benefit package.

In addition to the Caloocan government job order workers, about 35,000 indigent families will also be covered by the free health and medical insurance.

Earlier, City Council Resolution 4241, authored by District 2 City Councilor Alexander Aruelo, authorized
the city mayor to adopt and implement the employer sponsored program and enter into an agreement with PhilHealth.
