‘Noynoy’ Aquino thanks Aksyon
Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III thanked the Aksyon Demokratiko Monday for endorsing him as its standard-bearer in the May 10, 2010 elections.
Aquino said he was elated over the decision of the party whose chairman is Sonia Roco, widow of Sen. Raul Roco.
In a text message, Aquino, the only son of former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and the late President Corazon C. Aquino who had succumbed last August to colon cancer, said he is happy over the support and endorsement of Aksyon Demokratiko.
“Ikinagagalak natin ang balitang iyan at nagdadasal tayong maging karapat dapat sa pag-endorso nila,” Aquino said.
Calls for the senator to run for president mounted following Mrs. Aquino’s death. The Liberal Party remains undecided on whether it would support Aquino’s candidacy over Sen. Manuel “Mar”Roxas II who had earlier announced his presidential bid.
Aksyon Demokratiko, at a press conference at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City, added its voice to the growing clamor for Aquino to run for president in the May, 2010, elections.
However, Aquino, whose term as senator expires in 2013, said he is still studying his options.
Roxas and Aquino are expected to issue their statements on the matter in the next few days.
Roxas had earlier said he is willing to heed the voice of the public in making any political decision.
