Nasipit, Agusan del Norte – The construction of the P50 million palm tree oil milling plant here is expected to boost the economic condition of this international seaport town of Agusan del Norte.

Aside from employment generation, the AguMill Company will also add to the economic activities at the more than 200-hectare Nasipit, Agusan del Norte Industrial Estate (NANIE) in Barangay Camagong here, the economic zone of the province.

NANIE has still some 78 hectares available for occupancy, it was learned.

AguMill, a palm oil milling plant, is a joint venture between a Malaysian business group and a Philippine business partner, said Mayor Roy Orlando D. Doyon of this town.

The construction of the AguMill plant started last year and will be completed for operation soon.

“Our agreement with the company is that Nasipit will provide technical men and workers when the operation starts,” said Doyon.

The town chief executive also disclosed that the local government here will offer, throughout the year, tax holidays to any investor and they will only collect rentals of the space that they will occupy at only P10 per square meter at NANIE.

In another development, Surigaonons were jubilant after the government established the Farmers’ Information & Technology Services (FITS) Center recently at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist I in Tandag City of the province of Surigao del Sur, this was learned Tuesday.

It was also learned that the establishment of FITS is a joint project of the provincial government of Surigao del Sur, Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources, Research and Development (CCARRD) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources, Research and Development (PCARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST).

FITS Center or “Techno Pinoy” is an information and technology delivery service facility which is aimed at improving access of farmers, traders, processors, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to information and technologies in agriculture and natural resources, it was gathered.
