Davao City – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is likely to renew the provisional authorities (PAs) of passenger van operators in Mindanao amid reports of unresolved
“grey” areas in the processing of franchise applications in Southern Philippines.

LTFRB chair Alberto Suansing told the Manila Bulletin on Monday night that he would confer with Executive Director Emmanuel Mahipos and regional directors in Regions 11 and 12 regarding the urgent clamor of holders of PAs that expired on August 31.

Earlier, LTFRB Region 12 Director Benjamin Go told the Manila Bulletin that holders of PAs in his region have great chances of getting renewals because many commuters are preferring vans over buses due to perceived speed, comfort and security in conveyance.

But unlike the first month-long extension of PAs granted for the period August 1 to 31 all-over Mindanao,
Suansing hinted the possibility of new month-long extension just for Regions 11 and 12 where “grey” areas in processing of applications for franchises have reportedly remained unresolved.

Suansing has earlier admitted indifference to the issuance of PAs due to suspicion on possible abuses in the process, implying though that his office is taking into account humanitarian considerations for deserving clients.
