Cristine Reyes shifts to drama in ‘Your Song’

The landscape of ABS-CBN’s Sunday afternoon drama entitled “Your Song” has changed. Instead of its light romance themes and young actors and actresses in puppy love situations and drama, it has become a venue for heavy drama plots and serious acting. Such was started with Maricar Reyes’ highly rating episode entitled “Gaano Kita Kamahal.” And its follow-up, headlined by Cristine Reyes, “Babalik Kang Muli” is expected to follow suit in terms of ratings success!
Ivan Cruz from “Your Song” production explained that they want controversial actresses and actors to star in their coming episodes. What is exciting about their new thrust is that its stories will also be as controversial as the stars they’ve chosen to focus on.
“For example with Cristine, she is coming back to the Kapamilya Network. And her first show is ‘Your Song.’ Ibinabagay namin sa artista kung sino ang hot… tumatawid siya from reality to the show itself. Ibinabagay namin sa artista kung sino ang hot,” the source explained.
As Cristine said in an interview about her comeback TV project with ABS-CBN, “I’m very happy because I was entrusted again by the network with another project. I can’t express in words my happiness for another opportunity to learn.”
Her strong disposition and frankness and not withdrawing from criticisms was the inspiration behind her character in “Babalik Kang Muli.” In the one month series, Cristine plays the daughter of a prostitute played by renowned dramatic actress Jaclyn Jose. Her dilemma is whether she would turn out to be like her mother, a prostitute, or will she get out from her life’s quagmires.
The episode “Babalik Kang Muli” aims to show the love of a mother to her daughter. At the same time they want to answer the question whether the daughter will grow up to be like her mother. But the bottom line in their story is that whatever Cristine’s character does, she would always have a mother to go back to.
The series will showcase some positive aspects in Cristine’s life. They said that despite her character being confronted with the complexities of her existence, he would manage to pick up different lessons in her life story. It’s also an inspiring story as she tries to life up her mother from their miserable situation.
Joining Cristine Reyes in “Your Song Presents: Babalik Kang Muli” are Joross Gamboa, Mark Abaya and Alessandra de Rosi.
Though Cristine is playing the daughter of a prostitute, she won’t be “sexy” in any part of the episode. If people liked her in “Eva Fonda” because of her sexy attires and scenes, they hope that Cristine would be loved for her dramatic prowess.
“Drama talaga ang makikita kay Cristine… those who witnessed her in her first days of taping described her to be very serious. She would really study her lines and character. She was focused and dedicated. She even expressed that she wanted to do another episode of ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ again,” commented Ivan.
Even its director, Eric Salud, was said to have also witness Cristine’s different acting skills in “Babalik Ka Rin.” Working with Joel Mercado, they hope that “Babalik Kang Muli” would be as successful or even better than the “Your Song” episode of Maricar Reyes.
“Sobrang naging successful ang ‘Gaano Kita Kamahal’ simula ng pilot naging maganda ang ratings hanggang matapos,” quipped Ivan.
As for “Your Song Presents: Babalik Kang Muli,” from an unofficial source, Mega Manila ratings pegged its debut last Aug. 23 at 11.7%.
