Come clean on properties, senators tell Arroyo brothers
Opposition Senators Alan Peter S. Cayetano and Panfilo M. Lacson asked on Wednesday presidential son, Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel ‘’Mikey’’ Arroyo, to come clean on his questionable purchase of a house and lot in California.
Cayetano said Mikey’s explanation on his capability to buy a $1.32 million house and lot in Foster City near San Francisco through a media interview only triggered more questions.
Mikey had claimed that he has the capability to buy the California as his assets have increased from, among others, the many gifts given him during this wedding and campaign contributions for his electoral bid.
‘’Remember, kahit small gifts ay hindi puwede sa isang public official. Unless very reasonable. Pero kung sinasabi niyang substantial ang itinaas ng kaniyang kayamanan dahil dito, dapat ni-report ito, makikita natin kung legal o hindi,’’ he said.
Another reason, according to Cayetano, is that all contributions should be filed with the Commission on Elections.
If not, Mikey is liable for indirect bribery or the contributors are trying to corrupt a public official, he said.
‘’I think he should be totally transparent about it at ilahad lahat ng facts, hindi yung ipapasa sa abogado. But after he slipped up kanina, I doubt he would be available for a face-to-face interview. It is likely the interviewer will face a lawyer, not Mikey,’’ he said.
Mikey had claimed that his family has the means to buy real estate in the United States.
‘’If examine dearly my SALN (statement of assets, liabilities and net worth), if you read it well, you can see we can well afford to buy properties,’’ he added.
Mikey’s 2008 SALN had his networth at P99.2 million.
The Mikey Arroyo real estate property is at 1655 Beach Park Blvd., Foster City.
Lacson said the allegations that Mikey and his brother, Camarines Sur Rep. Diosdado ‘’Dado’’ Arroyo, have purchased real estate properties in the US under questionable circumstances is a reprise to what the Arroyo administration has done to him.
