ABS-CBN’s Star Magic Ball 2009 held at the Rizal Ballroom of Shangri-La Makati, last August 30, dazzled with high fashion and star hookups.

Meant as a celebration of the Kapamilya Network’s 17-year-old talent management arm Star Magic's inception, the ball, already on its third year, was once again attended by a flock of celebrities, garbed in style as well as intrigue.

Some of the interesting sidelights at the event include exes Anne Curtis and Sam Milby being seen walking hand in hand; Luis Manzano attending sans girlfriend Angel Locsin; John Lloyd Cruz also by his lonesome; and KC Concepcion looking radiant in the arms of Piolo Pascual.

Piolo Pascual, who also hosted the event, looked very dapper in a suit even as KC, wearing a Joey Samson creation, tickled onlookers pink when she said that she specifically wore a navy blue dress, as it was Piolo’s shade of choice. Most know that Piolo is courting the Megastar’s daughter.

Piolo and KC were chosen as one of the two Couples of the Night. The other pair is “Tayong Dalawa”’s Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson.

Although Kim and Gerald are still mum about the status of their relationship, the two looked proud to be in each other’s company that night. Gerald wore an Inno Sotto creation while Kim, one of the few who opted for the ‘princess look’ with her puffed and beribboned gown, credited Paul Cabral for the ensemble.

And did Sam Milby really reconcile with Anne Curtis?

The couple was seen dancing the night away, looking so much into each other. Anne snagged the night’s Most Glamorous Person award with her black ensemble created by Michael Cinco.

Despite keeping mum on the true score between her and Sam, she quipped for everyone to hear: “Sam you look dashing tonight.”

Oyo Boy Sotto and Kristine Hermosa also piqued the interest of many. The two, who have never admitted to a romance, seemed to have been glued to each other the whole night.

Luis Manzano looked dashing in a Hugo Boss suit. Asked about Angel’s absence, Luis merely shrugged, saying she had a prior engagement.

Luis was later photographed escorting director Mae Cruz; ditto with the Most Stylish Star of the Night John Lloyd who was seen escorting director Cathy Molina.

John Lloyd’s rumored constant date Ruffa Gutierrez was seen together with brother Raymond. Statuesque Ruffa wore a red gown with a slit that rode high up her thigh. The sexy gown is reminiscent of a dress that Megan Fox wore at a premiere of “Transformers 2.”

“May Bukas Pa” actress Nina Dolino wore a white version of Ruffa’s dress.

Other ‘lookalikes’ were fashionistas Gretchen Barretto and Agot Isidro who both wore a tent-like, strapless dress similar to a gown Angelina Jolie wore at an awards night she attended while pregnant with her twins.

Gretchen Barretto’s gown was made by Ivarluski Aseron. She was jewelry- and seemingly luxury-free, but La Greta made sure everyone noticed her Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.

In contrast, Agot Isidro paired her similar gown with gold dangling earrings. Hubby Manu Sandejas completed Agot’s look.
