San Beda College tries to extend its winning streak on Friday even as guest team Arellano University bids to fuel its chase for a Final 4 berth in the NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions, seeking their fourth straight championship in the country’s oldest collegiate tournament, tangle with the University of Perpetual Help Altas at 2 p.m. after which the Chiefs go for win No. 8 against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers at 4 p.m.
But while the Red Lions, currently in second place with an 11-1 win-loss card behind unbeaten San Sebastian College (12-0), are favored to stretch their winning run to 11 games, the Chiefs (7-5) are in for a rough sailing against the 10-2 Heavy Bombers.
Runners-up to the Lions in the previous NCAA, the Heavy Bombers are in the thick of a fight for the No. 2 spot with the Red Lions and are expected to come out with all bomb bay doors open.
In their first meeting, JRU escaped with an 88-82 win over the Chiefs, who are 1 ½ games behind Letran.
