Krista Sullivan: Finding jackpot in showbiz

Already on her sophomore year in showbiz, Krista Sullivan learned that she must also find ways to build her career into what she wants it to be in the future!
“I’m very thankful to Star Magic because they’ve given me good projects. But it’s a competitive business and I know I have to work hard. I also know that I just can’t wait for projects to come my way. I have to find ways too to get jobs for my career to flourish,” explained Krista.
As of press time Krista is a freelance artist and she is contented with her career’s direction. An example is her latest project, a trilogy movie by Carlo J. Caparas entitled “Pangarap kong Jackpot.” Krista is part of the episode “Hiwaga ni Lolo Hugo” headlined by awarded actor Eddie Garcia and GMA Network’s young stars Mark Herras, Ryza Cenon and Nina Jose.
“I’m very honored to be given this project. It was very memorable to have worked with Toto Natividad... I play Jane one of the eight teenagers who went to this haunted house to explore. It was excited because we shot in a real haunted house in Sta. Mesa, Casa Sociego,” she described.
In the said episode she plays Jane who is part of the eight teenagers who went ghost haunting and in rumored haunted house.
“I was so scared to go anywhere alone. I was always with Niña kasi, even at the bathroom. We have a lot of exciting ‘takutan-scenes.’ The basement was scary talaga. It was really creepy especially the back part, garden area. Scary talaga,” recalled Krista.
Still raw in the realm of acting, she enjoyed working with their director Toto Natividad whom he described as very patient. She was also glad that she was guided well in her scenes in “Hiwaga ni Lolo Hugo.”
“Actually all of us were very magulo. They always have to remind us again and again that we’re taping already. Because it’s always natural for us to play around when the scene is for us to play around because we don’t stop anymore,” she smiled.
The two other epsiodes are “Sa Ngalan ng Busabos” starring boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and “Hawak Kita, Hawak Mo Ko” with Jake Cuenca. And according to producer and director Carlo J. Caparas, the message he wants to impart is simple – there’s always hope to his downtrodden “kababayans.” Through his film he wants to remind people of the goodness as well as the life changing experiences winners of Lotto or Sweepstakes have.
Before “Pangarap Kong Jackpot” Krista’s big break television came via GMA-7’s now defunct “Totoy Bato” with cousin and the country’s renowned action star Robin Padilla. In the said series she showcased her “action side” as she even took up Muay Thai in preparation for her fight scenes.
“Tito Robin told me to learn it. It wasn’t for self defense because I’m not really into sports aside from swimming. I studied it so it would be easier for me to execute my fight scenes. I always go to ULTRA to exercise. I had to learn them the hard way,” she recalled.
In terms of her movie career, aside from “Pangarap Kong Jackpot” Krista appeared in “Bahay Kubo” and “BFF.” She would also be seen in Dante Garcia’s short film featuring other young actors like Meryl Soriano, Jason Abalos and Oyo Boy Sotto among others.
She plays an activist in the early ’80s and one of the five young characters in search for God. On television, she is a regular in TV5’s comedy show “Lokomoko High” and she has appeared in different shows like “All About Love,” “Maynila” and “ASAP ’09.”
So how does she assess her career?
“I was launched with the Star Magic Batch 15 two years ago and I don’t feel frustrated about how my career’s going. Compared to others I feel that my career is going fast pa nga. But if I can make it go faster, why not,” she smiled.
As to her other plans, Krista expressed her desire to do more “kontrabida” roles as possible. After hearing good feedbacks from playing a “kontrabida” in “Totoy Bato,” she wouldn’t mind such roles to hone her acting skills. One of her goals too is to be given an opportunity to showcase her dancing skills which she feels is one of her forte!
As to revealing more of herself via a men’s magazine, the 19-year-old actress stressed that she won’t because she wants to enter the Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant. According to her, doing sexy pictorials for a men’s magazine could disqualify her.
“But in acting, I wouldn’t mind doing mature roles and not bold roles because I don’t want to make my mom worried,” she said.
Her positive outlook in life, passion to her craft and wholesome image paved the way for her to be the celebrity endorser of the Crimson line of clothing with another actor Aaron Villafor. She was tapped for the deal because her persona matches what Crimson is all about according to her – sharp, edgy, explosive and everything that’s pop fashion. Like her, Crimson is fun and evolving in fashion!
“I’m just blessed with all these jobs and I’m ready for more,” Krista remarked.
With that said, Krista Sullivan is a versatile young actress who may soon find her own jackpot in showbiz because she is ON THE RISE!
