NBI rules out love triangle in slaying of Dacer witness
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ruled out on Friday a love triangle behind the slaying of Jimmy Lopez, the witness in the 2000 Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito double murder case in Cavite on Wednesday.
This developed as Emelinda R. Lopez, the widow of Lopez, who was a former civilian agent of the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF), formally filed a complaint for the death of her husband at the NBI.
While the love triangle angle was ruled out, Deputy Director for Intelligence Services lawyer Ruel Lasala said the NBI –Philippine National Police Joint Investigative Task Force is not ruling out other angles, including the drug angle.
“This is an all-open theory. Buhay pa ang lahat ng leads (including the drugs and the hearing of Dacer-Corbito case). Investigations are still ongoing and information is still being verified. Tinatrabaho pa talaga,” said Lasala.
Allan Contado, chief of the NBI Anti-Graft Division and bureau spokesman, said the task force has already found a lead but declined to comment further.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said investigators are pursuing the drug angle and have already taken statements of potential witnesses. “We have something in our hands to back up drug angle but we are still gathering pieces evidence to strengthen our theory,” said one of the sources.
The NBI said Lopez was in the watchlist of drug personalities in Indang, Cavite.
“Ang tinitingnan natin diyan ay iyong personality ng tao,” the NBI source said.
Meanwhile, Lopez’s female companion whom the task force identified only “Nicole” remained unidentified and unclaimed.
“The body of the female companion who was believed to be less than 20 years old remained unclaimed. We called her ‘Nicole,’ as she was known in the area as Nicole and we have no surname yet,” the source said.
