The government collected lower non-tax revenues in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter because of a drop in the sale of government securities.

Non-tax revenues amounted to P24.68 billion by the end of the second quarter from P34.62 billion in the first three months of the year. Total non-tax revenues amounted to P59.3 billion in the first semester and P74.93 billion as of July.

Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) income decreased to P9.47 billion in the second quarter from P20.66 billion in the previous quarter. However income increased to P12.59 billion in July from June’s P2.21 billion.

For the month of July alone, BTr income amounted to P3.87 billion from June’s P952 million. The increase was due to higher interest income on National Government deposits and income from the Bond Sinking Fund and the Securities Stabilization Fund of P2.31 billion.

There was also a significant increase in the BTr’s collection of NG income of P7.74 billion in July from June’s P10 million.

Non-tax revenues also include fees and charges that government collects from the private sector when they deal with the state. Fees and charges totaled P11 billion as of July.

The Department of Finance expects non-tax revenues of P156.5 billion this year from 2008’s P153.7 billion. In 2007, non-tax revenues reached P203.6 billion, of which privatization of state assets contributed P90.6 billion.
