Barrameda slay suspect still in hospital
Lawyer Manuel Jimenez Jr., the principal suspect in the brutal slaying of Ruby Rose Barrameda, remained in a hospital on Saturday after he complained of chest pain minutes after he surrendered to the police in Angono, Rizal on Friday afternoon.
In an interview, Police Supt. Romel Estulano, chief of Angono police, confirmed reports that Jimenez is still confined at the Angono Medics Hospital and police are still waiting for the discharge order from the hospital before he is brought back to jail.
“So far we have done the normal procedures after he surrendered Friday like the markings and fingerprintings among other, but while interviewing him, he complained of chest pains that made me decide to bring him to the hospital for checkup,” Estulano said.
He assured that no special treatment would be given to Jimenez who will be detained in the Angono detention cell with other inmates.
“We will immediately return the warrant to the issuing judge on the regular working days since it's holiday on Monday,” Estulano said.
Jimenez, father-in-law of Barrameda, remained under close watch by policemen at the Angono Medics Hospital.
The lawyer will most likely stay in the station’s lock up facility at least until Tuesday morning, when regular office schedule resumes.
Jimenez was accompanied by his wife Jocelyn Merced Jimenez when he showed up at the police station carrying a copy of his arrest warrant.
Estulano, who assumed his new post as the chief of police here only at around 10 a.m. last Friday, said he was surprised to see Jimenez in his office and voluntarily surrendering.
“Honestly, I do not know him personally. I did not receive a word prior to his surrender that he would show up here. I only knew about him in the papers and television,” Supt. Estolano, erstwhile head of the Police Community Relations office of Region 4-A, said.
Jimenez is facing murder charges along with five others in connection to the alleged brutal slaying of Barrameda-Jimenez, who went missing since March 14, 2007. No bail was recommended for his conditional freedom. The charges against them were filed by the Department of Justice last August 24.
